19th November ~ Steve Gamble wins the EMAS Indoor Championships

On Sunday 18 November Steve Gamble took part in the East Midlands Archery Society Indoor championships hosted by Sherwood Archers.  The round was a FITA 18, 60 arrows at a 40cm face at 18 metres (longbows are allowed a full size face, compound and recurves must shoot on three spots).  Shooting the last session of the day Steve arrived to find that Dean Hirst from Derwent Bowmen had put in 427 in the middle session.  However, shooting 438, one point short of his personal best, Steve took the trophy for the fourth time.

18th November ~ Steve Gamble wins the BLBS Indoor Championships

On Saturday 17 November Chantry Bowmen hosted the British Long Bow Society indoor championship near Rotherham.  The round was a double Worcester, shot two way.
(A Worcester is 5 dozen arrows shot in 5 arrow ends at a black and white 40cm face, half way through the round archers change from the top to the bottom face which adds to the challenge.)
This year Belvoir were represented by Steve Gamble, who holds the BLBS records for hits (120) and score (445) in this round.
BLBS award first prize on hits, which Steve won this year with 119 hits out of 120 arrows with his overall score for the double round being 429.

17th November ~ Belvoir Archers Go Indoors

Following the announcement of the Sport England Grant last week, Belvoir Archers now have in indoor venue.  We now shoot at Cotgrave Leisure Centre on Sunday Evenings between 7pm and 9pm.  Can archers be there for 6.45 to help in the setup of the equipment.

Part of the grant was to supply a new 25m net and 8 new foam layered targets which arrive this week.

The Cotgrave Leisure Centre allows us to shoot upto 20 yards, so club members can shoot Portsmouth or FITA18 rounds, or can practice as required.  Club coaches will be available during the sessions to help with any queries you may have.  Helen Lowe, a coach from Burton Joyce, will be coming to assist with the coaching of the junior members – thankyou Helen for your help.

In the new year, Belvoir Archers will be running an indoor beginners course, dates and numbers to be confirmed in the near future.

1st November ~ Sport England Funding

Belvoir Archers are excited and proud to announce that they have received a grant for £4,063 from Sport England to purchase netting, indoor targets, 15 beginners bows and coaching for Steve Burdett and Peter Emery. This means that Belvoir Archers will be able to run beginners courses indoors at our new indoor venue at Cotgrave Leisure Centre.

Coaching Feeback from Tim Slater

“Having joined the club as newly trained archers we have received invaluable advice from Bryan and Dave as we progress from our beginners status. This was firstly about building confidence and now ismto hone our techniques. We were shown the 8 steps methods and this was a much easier and logical method than our beginners training which was taken at an alternative club. The coaches are always support, offering great advice in a constructive and relaxed manner.”

22nd October – The 2nd Winter Windsor Results

RESULTS

Sunday saw our 2nd Winter Windsor tournament with over 40 archers from around the region competing.  At 7,30am, when the field party came to setup, the field was blanketed in thick fog, which, at that time of the morning, you could not see the 60 yard targets from the shooting line.   Alan, Dennis and Tony were sent off in to the fog to move the sheep from the field by the targets  to the safe narrow field area down behind the shooting line, this a bit worrying as Alan had a smile on his face and wellington boots on his feet! Coaching Feeback from Trevor Simpson

Many thanks to everyone for the excellent course. The coaching was the
best I have had for any sport (sailing, skiing, riding, rowing etc.)
and the organisation was very good. The handouts are good too. Even
the weather was good. Totally inspiring.

I’ve met one or two people around the villages who might be tempted to
come to a taster or a course. I might speak to some at the Vale Market
Cafe in Barnstone on Saturday morning 8th Sep.

I now realise how interesting archery is so I will join and I will
need to buy equipment. The offer to help at CBA Eakring is very kind
and I could make almost any weekday. If anyone is making a trip and I
could join in that would be great. Alternatively perhaps I could go on
my own with prior guidance sent on by the club.

Best Wishes, Trevor Simpson

The weather stayed dry all day and there were even some sunny intervals.

In the gents longbow Dave came third with 260 and an off-form Steve won with 365, his worst York of the year.

In the ladies recurve Vicky shot a personal best 809 to claim her white rose award while Sue shot 959 to claim fourth place and also won the “pinhole” trophy for the arrow nearest the very centre of the target at the longest distance (in Sue’s case – 80 yards)
